Project: Yukute! a new game prototype to start that may turn into a title if it develops well. Yukute is designed to be a kind of stealth game where the environment can be changed by the player pressing, holding & releasing keys on their keyboard. The goal is to sneak around a level, grab an item of some kind, and escape without getting spotted/caught.
Another project? what about Project: Sakura? I plan to work on a prototype for both in 2025. Yukute is the other project that I’ve yet to make any Carter Games posts about. I did tease the game a little in a small video on my personal BlueSky. At the time I was just testing if the keyboard mechanic would be viable. As that has proven to be true, I’ve decided to try and prototype it along with Project: Sakura.
Currently, I’m just coding up some basic mechanics in a sandbox environment before I get to work on some levels. Most of the player controls have been hooked up. The keyboard interactions are mostly done with the mouse being used for click-to-move locations for the player character. There is some viability for controller support. But it isn’t the main design of the game.
You can also see my early attempts at detection and vision cones. I want to make it so the enemies that spot you have a mobile line of sight that acts as the place they are looking at with peripheral vision etc. It’s all a work in progress at the moment. More on that in future updates.
Progress has been good so far and out of the two prototypes is the likely one to be playable first. I hope to post more regular updates next year on this project as well as Sakura. Aiming to post more frequently than in previous years.
That is all for now, see y’all in 2025 with more updates etc.
